Denver is the capital of Colorado. It is also known as the Mile High City because at the state capitol the measurement is exactly one mile.  The city is located 15 miles east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The climate is semi-arid but because of the proximity of the mountains, the snowfall is unpredictable.  Denver has over two hundred parks and twenty-eight recreation centers for the area residents. The economy is based partially on its geographic location and connection to some major transportation systems. The considerable amount of Federal Agencies in Denver compares only to Washington, D.C. The Colorado convention center put the city on a list of top 10 cities for conventions with the 2008 Democratic convention being held in Denver.  Mining and energy played a large role in the economy, but this has given way to the telecommunications industry.

The Mountain Time zone allows communications with both North American coasts, South America, Europe and Asia on the same business day.  Denver has a variety of media outlets with its television market ranked #18 in the nation. The city has over 40 FM and AM radio stations.  Denver newspapers include The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News among several others.
